MailedUpdates

Some WikiEngines will mail you if something interesting happens.

MailedUpdates are useful for attracting new visitors to a wiki. Frequently, people are interested in a single page, not the entire wiki. They aren’t going to check RecentChanges every day, to see if anyone made an edit. But they don’t have to do anything to receive an e-mail. If people collaborate frequently on one page, they are likely to look at the other pages as well, and perhaps become more involved.

In the future, this page will likely become specific to issues around mail. “InstantNotification,” or “ExternalNotification” will become the name for the concepts here, generic to whether you are being notified by IM or E-Mail.LionKimbro

Alternatives

Use rss2email and subscribe to the RSS feed of a wiki. If the wiki supports PerPageRss, the you will have per-page email notification.

Possibilities

Page Change Notification

Other Notice

Perhaps you want to be notified when a particular user makes an appearance, or when a page is renamed (PageRenaming), or anything else.

Change Digests

Users can recieve periodical summaries of Wiki activity via e-mail. This makes all-pages notices more practical for high-traffic wikis.

Implementations

Many WikiEngines support MailedUpdates.

Most support notification on a per-page basis. MoinMoin supports per-page, and entire-wiki mailed updates.
