Features that allow you to organize and annotate the content of wikis or the work done on the wikis.
Footnotes are additional notes placed at the bottom of a page, and associated with some place in the text of page using a symbol like “*”, “†” or a superscript number or letter.
The Wiki is connected to a database. The data in the database is accessible to wikizens and from within the wiki; database queries are possible.
The ability to make variables in a wiki.
A variable is a miniature “storage bin” for information- sort of like a page, but much, much smaller, and made to be readily accessible to software.
The idea is to build automatic translation capabilities into the wiki.
Fast and effective translation will help communities to discuss issues in different languages, but keep the discussion together.
User can hide and show fragments of text while reading the page.
The older text is, the more it fades, until it fades into a readable gray.
Links that are not followed frequently gradually change to black.
The idea of this feature is to have a “license switch” among a user’s preferences.
The license switch starts in “Default Copyright,” which means that if the user wants to do anything other than “Default Copyright,” the user must consciously flip the switch, thereby saying: “I understand and acknowledge that my posts are by another license.”
Metadata support in wiki may facilitate advanced features like facet browsing, topic grouping, better categorizations, etc.
Permanent anchors can be included in pages. They create a globally-usable name (in the same namespace as normal wikipage names) that leads to the marked fragment. They are like a “COME FROM” statement for wiki - the permanent anchor creates an implicit redirect from the nonexistant page to the fragment.
Instead of editing conversations like documents, build threaded conversation support into the WikiEngine. Comments are added with “reply to this” buttons, and appear in a hierarchy of comments. Like Slashdot, Kuro5hin.
A particular approach to FineGrainedAddressing; Purple Numbers are ID tags for paragraphs. When paragraphs have ID tags, you can link to a particular paragraph in a web page.
Members acquire ratings from other members.
Each page is assigned a rating by users.
Allow users to form multiple groups for the purpose of rating content on the wiki. Each piece of content may then be associated with multiple ratings.
Page superceded by BuiltinThreading
Make it easy to rename pages.
Text warehouses are convenient storage places for text.
We want high-quality wiki pages, right ? How in the world do we measure “quality” ?
WikiNodes:WikiNodes gain an associated RDF (of something like RDF) form, that make it so you can make software tools to help you find wiki nodes, and learn the arrangement of wiki nodes.
The ability to maintain RDF within the wiki. The ability to write RDF (or simplified RDF) assertions within a wiki page.
Additional hierarchy for the pages.
Build understanding of page categories into the WikiEngine.
A program or code snippet to keep record of the hits (views) of a web page (or atomic hypercontent) on the wiki.
It’s another way of knowing what people are interested in, so you know what to read yourself.
This feature (action) will show a list of “small” pages present in your wiki.
This is usefull for editors, because they can find articles that thay can expand.
A list of pages that don’t have any links to them.
A generalization of MinorEdit. In addition to MinorEdit, there are conceivably a few other categories that might prove useful (useful meaning the reader my wish to filter some of them out of RecentChanges, or at least not read them if they see them, or skim though them).
EditCategories are an attempt to increase the relevance of RecentChanges for a wider audience.
A way to filter the recent changes by user, part of a wiki, or other rules. In other words, search in recent changes, or see recent changes in search results ![]()
On RecentChanges, the page that was changes is displayed, and the time of the most recent change. However, it would be useful to have an icon to let the user know when else that page was changed; has it just been changed this once; has it been changed a lot in the last few days, and then not for awhile? has it been changed frequently and continuously for the past few weeks?
The ability to collect a number of changes into one RecentChanges entry, revocable as a group, or in pieces.
Good for describing proposals.
Sometimes, you want to write something on one wiki, but tell people about it on another.
The idea here is to allow people to contribute directly into the RecentChanges timeline.
A revision-marking feature displays a page with its entire history included.
Treat multiple quick edits by the same user as a single edit.
I keep in mind to add some Indexing Schemes, where do you think could they go in this Organization? --JuanmaMP
I’m not sure, the current division of this page doesn’t seem perfect, especially the two first groups seem to overlap. If you have an idea on how to better divide the content of this page, please do. Right now I’d put indexing schemes in the second group, as “overview”, but you might as well just make a separate group if there is going to be several of them. Anyways, be bold. – RadomirDopieralski
