Members acquire ratings from other members.
Possibilities
- Positive and negative rating points to other members.
- Each member could have a “rating budget” of points to allocate.
- A member’s rating budgets could be static (you must un-rate some items in order to rate others), or they could “recharge” over time
- The size or the weight of members’ rating budgets could depend upon their own rating
- The rating budget could also be used for rating items other than members (see RatedPages for example)
- Rather than use the rating information to rank each member on a 1-dimensional scale (from “witty and brilliant” to “spammer”), we could use the same rating information to cluster people on a 2 dimensional map. I imagine that there is not a lot of overlap in the people who discuss Lovie Smith, the people who listen to Warren Buffett, and the people who hang on every word from Donald Knuth.
