About me and Wiki Features

Currently, I am working on implementing DandelionWiki as the wiki engine for http://lansingwiki.org. DandelionWiki is a WikiEngine written by RadomirDopierlski, that stores page data in the Mercurial revision control system. More info at http://dandelion.sheep.art.pl/

I plan on borrowing a developing feature from WagnEngine (http://wagn.org) that allows for both the creation of documents, and also the creation of databases, withing wiki. I think this is vital for CivicWiki.

As part of a Python programming self-learning experience, I intend to build somewhat similar features as plugins for DandelionWiki engine.

Current features/plugins being worked on for http://lansingwiki.org are:

• Simple WYSIWYG editor (a deference to intended users)
• Ability to import http://tiger.census.gov/cgi-bin/mapbrowse-tbl census data, and render maps
• Import data from GoogleMaps API, and render those maps
• Possibly: Community-created data to be overlaid onto http://tiger.census.gov/cgi-bin/mapbrowse-tbl maps
• WikiForms (form-based templates) for the creation of different page types, making it easier for people to contribute

Eventual:

• Importing data and documents of many types, and turning them into “page” objects:
