A feature that makes it so you can spontaneously summon a “discussion”, anywhere in a wiki page.
Any number of discussions can be summoned on a wiki page.
The discussion would be a threaded discussion room. It could support multiple “subject” (as in email parlance, complete with “re:” to indicate continued discussion on a subject).
The discussion would be threaded with machine support (as in the automatic threaded arrangement of emails performed by sophisticated mail clients), not manually maintained (as in “threaded mode” discussions on a wiki page.)
Access to the discussion would be via popular methods. In this day, it would be via HTTP and Email. To work the page via HTTP, you would use a form to post a reply to something you read, and hit “submit,” and then the entry would be added to the threaded discussion. To work the page via Email, you would reply to a mail you received, and the reply would be added to the threaded discussion.
You should also be able to make new subjects within the discussion room. However, participants need to take their own care not to step outside the reasonable boudnaries of the discussion room. Otherwise, there will be intelligence failures.
You could subscribe to a discussion in many ways. You could receive RSS updates. You could receive emails. Or you could hotlink the page.
In the discussion, you would not be able to edit other people’s talk..! You could still write document-mode summaries on wiki pages, but a person’s expression is set in stone (or censored on in entirety) once it is laid down.
